Firm, Flawless Arms

For many people, flabby upper arms can be a major source of self-consciousness, often to the point where they’ll be too embarrassed to remove their shirt or wear a bathing suit. If you’re experiencing saggy upper arm skin, then an arm lift procedure could be exactly the solution you need.

What Is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift, medically known as brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to tighten loose, sagging skin and tissue around the upper arm. The surgery can also involve the removal of excess fat deposits. The primary goal of an arm lift is to create more toned and youthful-looking upper arms.

How Is an Arm Lift Performed?

The process of an arm lift procedure is generally very simple, although the specifics can vary from patient to patient. After making an incision on the inside or back of the upper arm, Dr. Landford will excise excess skin and, if necessary, suction out pockets of excess fat. During the procedure, she will also use sutures to secure the supportive upper arm tissue.

Your Arm Lift Consultation

If you’re considering brachioplasty, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with Dr. Landford. When you sit down with the doctor, she’ll discuss the specifics of the treatment with you and answer any questions you may have. Based on your aesthetic goals, she’ll help you determine whether or not an arm lift is an ideal treatment option for you. If it is, the next step will be to devise a custom-tailored treatment plan for the procedure.

What Should I Expect During the Surgery?

An arm lift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure using either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. When the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Landford will start by making small incisions in the upper arms. She will then carefully begin to remove and adjust skin and tissue based on the specifics of your treatment plan. Dr. Landford will also remove excess fat deposits from the area as needed. Finally, she will secure the remaining skin and tissue with sutures before closing the incisions and bandaging the treatment area.

On average, an arm lift usually takes around one to two hours to complete. You’ll need to stick around for monitoring for a couple of hours after the surgery, but you’ll then be able to return home with someone else driving.

How Long Is the Recovery Time?

Typically, patients require around one to two weeks of rest after an arm lift before resuming their normal routines. After that, you should be able to return to work, but you should refrain from strenuous exercise or physical activity for at least four to six weeks. You may need to wear a special compression garment while you’re healing from the surgery, and Dr. Landford will provide you with thorough aftercare instructions to ensure that you recover properly.

Am I a Candidate for an Arm Lift?

Adults who would like their upper arms to be more toned and defined could be good candidates for an arm lift. To be an ideal candidate for the surgery, you should:

  • Be in generally good physical health
  • Have excess skin and fat around one or both upper arms
  • Have the desire for firmer, more defined upper arms
  • Have reasonable expectations for the procedure
  • Be able to maintain a stable weight
  • Be a non-smoker
  • Not be currently pregnant or breastfeeding
