Aging skin exhibits wrinkling, creasing, and sagging due to the decrease in collagen in the dermal layers. A lack of moisture in the skin will result in a brittle appearance. Stimulating new tissue growth can correct these problems. A laser skin treatment is a specialized cosmetic treatment that helps jumpstart a process of collagen production. This is accomplished by removing the epidermal layer carefully and heating up the dermal layers that lie beneath.
Laser instruments used today for skin resurfacing are highly advanced and can be calibrated to deliver just the right amount of energy regardless of skin tone or thickness. We encourage you to learn more about how this treatment is performed and also about the benefits of controlled heat delivery to the skin.
Why Use a Laser?
When most people think of a laser, an image of a powerful red beam of coherent light comes to mind. This isn't the type of laser used to rejuvenate the facial skin, however. Instead, the beam is very narrow, and it is sent through a special lensing apparatus that pixelates the beam into a multitude of thin shafts.
This allows us to carefully heat up and remove the outer layer of skin while at the same time allowing the lower dermal layers to absorb some of the energy. The removal of the epidermal layer stimulates new tissue growth from down below, and the heat absorbed by the dermis signals the body to begin an accelerated process of collagen creation.
Simple, In-House Procedures
Most laser skin treatments can be completed in less than an hour. Each pulse of the laser lasts only a few milliseconds but can treat an area the size of a nickel. In many cases, a single treatment is sufficient because the entire epidermal layer can be removed in just one visit. However, it all depends on the unique situation.
What Does It Treat
A simple laser skin treatment can be used to improve the appearance of crow's feet, marionette lines, and even mild creasing. Some of the darker tissues absorb more energy than the lighter tones, so purposeful damage to age spots, liver spots, injury scars, and even freckles can result in a diminished visibility of these discolorations and blemishes.
The process of collagen creation continues for weeks after the treatment, so the client will enjoy an even more radiant, glowing appearance a month or so after the laser skin treatment is performed. Since no skin is repositioned, the outcome is far more predictable than when another procedure is performed.
