From the Desk of Dr. Porter – SculpSure
We discuss everything from rhinoplasty techniques to how long dermal fillers last in our detailed and informative blogs.
I decided to bring SculpSure™ into the practice at the beginning of the year. So many patients had asked us if we had a technology to take care of unwanted fat. I looked at the data and had conversations with colleagues that owned SculpSure and loved the results. Personally, I was not opposed to the idea of getting rid of stubborn fat. After investigating the options, I decided to take the plunge into SculpSure. During my investigation, I was struck by a few things. Several patients had ventured out and had treatments with other technologies and were disappointed with lingering pain after the treatment. Others complained about irregularity in the appearance of the treated area; in particular, they were able to see the edges of the treatment area. These were two side effects that I was not willing to deal with for an elective nonsurgical procedure. SculpSure is a laser that delivers heat to the treatment area causing degradation of fat. The treatment area extends about 20% beyond the edge of the applicators, so there are no hard edges. The treatment is very tolerable, feels like tingling and/or mild cramps. The heat builds and is followed by a cool blast. This cycle continues over the course of 25 minutes. The treatments are customized for each patient based on the amount of fat and the areas that need treatment. Once the treatment is done, the skin may appear slightly pink which resolves quickly. Patients are instructed to massage for several weeks after the treatment to prevent nodule formation. Increased water intake is recommended to flush the system. In particular, our patient coordinator, Ashley, is a mom of two young boys – the youngest is 11 months. She underwent treatment about 4 weeks ago and has seen improvement in the abdomen. Her early results are shown below. She will continue to have more improvement over the next 2 months. Results are typically seen in 6 to 12 weeks. Additional treatments can be performed 6 -8 weeks after the first treatment. We had an informational open house on July 13, 2016. The open house featured a quick presentation by a representative from the company, followed by a live demonstration. Subsequently, Dr Chu and I performed consultations to ensure patients were proper candidates for the treatment. We also had a raffle for a free treatment – Congrats to Paris on winning a FREE SculpSure treatment! Because so many of you were unable to attend the open house during lunch time, we decided to repeat the event in the evening! Join us for our “Sip and Sculpt” event on August 3rd from 5 – 7 pm. Please RSVP to 301-652-8191 or [email protected] as space is limited. During the open house we will again have the lowest prices offered for the treatments.
