Fight the Aging Process: Why Sculptra®?

We all see the effects of aging; the appearance of increased laxity or sagging of the skin as well as volume loss. Perhaps you wonder how this happens. This change occurs because of a decrease in the size of the skull and loss of fat from the face, in particular in the temples and cheeks. We chase these signs with traditional filler applied to the upper cheek, nasolabial folds (cheek lip fold), and marionette fold (excess skin in the area between the lips and chin). Fillers such as Juvederm® Voluma and Restylane® Lyft do a wonderful job by instantaneously improving these areas. However, Sculptra remains in a class of its own! Sculptra is a volumizer. Volumizing the temples, cheeks, and lateral cheeks gives a more youthful appearance. Sculptra can be injected in areas that traditional fillers cannot because of its watery consistency. Sculptra can cause a little bruising and produces an immediate swollen appearance. This swollen look goes away by the next day as the water with which the Sculptra is mixed is absorbed into the body. What is left behind are the Sculptra particles carefully laid under the skin. These particles stimulate collagen in the area injected. Over the course of 6-8 weeks, slow improvement of the areas injected is seen. After the first treatment, there is approximately 15% improvement. The second treatment is performed at 6-8 weeks which results in approximately 80% improvement. This result will typically last two years. Depending on the amount of correction needed, a third treatment may be necessary. Patients like that the change is gradual and lasting. Occasionally, additional filler is injected into the nasolabial fold directly to augment the result.
