Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Do you ever feel that even after a full night of sleep you still wake up looking tired and exhausted? If this has crossed your mind, you’re not alone. Many patients tell me this and commonly point to their eyes being their main area of concern. Your eyes are one of the first areas that show early signs of aging with common findings being: crow’s feet (fine lines at the eye corners), increased laxity of the upper lid, under eye circles and under eye bags. While an eye cream can certainly improve some mild symptoms; sometimes it just isn’t enough for larger concerns. You may need a little bit more and surgery may be just the trick.
A lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to address the signs of aging in the area of skin just below your lower eyelid. If you suffer from under eye bags or fat herniation in your under eye region, this procedure can give you significant results. The procedure is performed with 2 main approaches with either an incision immediately below the lower lash line or with an incision well concealed inside your lower eyelid. This incision allows access to the fat compartments in your lower eyelid which can be manipulated to address each patient’s individual concerns.
The procedure usually lasts a little over an hour and is commonly done in an outpatient surgery setting. The post operative recovery is well tolerated with most patients back to work and their social life in a week. Patients can expect some bruising and swelling which resolves within the week. I recommend my patients to use cold compresses in the immediate recovery period and ice as needed.
