Fat Transfer, otherwise known as a fat grafting, is a procedure which involves the transfer of fat from one area to another. This is a commonly used facial rejuvenation technique used to enhance decreased volume in the face secondary to aging.
Fat is removed via a liposuction technique from the abdomen, flanks, or inner/outer thighs. The fat is processed by removing blood products and oil. Then the fat is reinjected in its most pure form to areas of the face to create volume.
This procedure is often combined with other facial surgery including facelift, neck lift, and eyelid surgery. Also, patients often choose fat transfer as a more long-term option than serial biodegradable filler injections. Often one to two treatments may be necessary to achieve the most desirable result.
Common areas for Fat Transfer include:
- Tear Trough
- Nasolabial folds
- Upper and lower eyelids
